Give Her an Emerald She’ll Never Stop Looking At.
You’ve been into the jewellery shops and walked out more confused than when you went in. Every emerald looked green. The prices were all over the place, and nobody could really tell you why.
Choosing her engagement ring shouldn’t feel like a gamble. You deserve to know exactly what you’re buying.
I’ll help you find a true vivid green emerald, show you what makes it special, and design the ring around it. So she wears an emerald nobody else on earth has.
Why an Emerald?
Emerald is known as the stone of harmony, good luck and good fortune.
Look closely and you’ll find a tiny garden inside. The French call it jardin. No two gardens are alike, so her emerald will be hers alone.
A clean, vivid green emerald is a rare and beautiful thing.
A fine emerald is almost impossible to photograph. You really have to see it move in the light. Wait until you see it on her hand.
The Trouble with Most Emeralds
Only a handful of emeralds have both the vivid colour and the clarity. Many lean a little yellow or a little blue. Many are cloudy inside.
Without someone on your side, it’s easy to pay a premium for an ordinary stone.
While we hunt, you’ll see the stones I turn down and why. By the time we find the one, you’ll know a great emerald when you see it.
A Guide Who Knows Emeralds
I know how big this decision feels. It’s a lot of money, and you may be trusting someone you’ve never met, in another city.
So call me first and ask me anything. I’ve spent over a decade colour grading film, so I can tell at a glance if an emerald leans green-yellow or green-blue, or if it’s a true vivid green.

Joel’s Emerald, and the Proposal That Couldn’t Wait
Joel, in Melbourne, had done the rounds of the shops and walked out more confused than when he walked in. So he went looking for someone on his side, and found Vivid Jewels.
It took just two weeks to find his emerald. It came out of the back of a retired gem collector’s safe. Near flawless, which almost never happens with an emerald, and certified vivid green.
We set it in 18ct white gold, between two matched emerald-cut diamonds. When the ring arrived, he was so captivated he couldn’t wait. He proposed on the spot, in the kitchen. Of course, she said yes.

“Josh’s expertise helped me find a near-flawless Zambian emerald, far exceeding my expectations and unmatched in Melbourne for quality and price.”

Is an Emerald Right for an Engagement Ring?
It can be a beautiful choice, if she’s happy to give it a little care. Emerald is 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs hardness scale, so it needs a gentler touch than a sapphire or a diamond.
Most emeralds are treated with oil or resin to improve their clarity. That’s accepted in the trade. Your lab report tells you how it’s been treated, so you know exactly what you’re getting.
A few simple habits keep it beautiful:
- Take it off for the gym, the garden and heavy work.
- Clean it with warm, soapy water and a soft brush.
- Never use an ultrasonic cleaner or a steam cleaner.
When we design your ring, we’ll talk about how your partner lives, so the setting suits them.
