Sell Gold Earrings, Rings and ChainsEven Single Earrings and Knotted Chains
Most jewellery boxes hold the same things: an earring that lost its partner, rings that no longer fit, and chains tied in knots. They might look too small or too broken to matter. They’re gold, so they’re worth something. Here’s how to sell gold earrings, rings and chains in Canberra, and walk away with a fair price.
Everything in Your Jewellery Box Counts
Single Earrings
One earring, no backs or a broken hook. It’s all still gold.
Rings That Don’t Fit
Old wedding bands, signet rings, and rings that are bent or cut.
Knotted Chains
Tangled, snapped or missing a clasp. No need to untangle them first.
Pendants and Charms
Lockets, crosses, charms and pendants, with or without the chain.
Selling gold earrings, even just one. Studs, hoops, drops and huggies are all welcome, with or without their partner or their backs. Small pieces add up, so bring them all in together. If an earring holds a Diamond or gemstone, the stone is checked on its own.
Selling Gold Rings
Rings are often the most valuable pieces in a jewellery box. A heavy signet ring or an 18ct band can hold more gold than you’d expect.
Rings with stones are looked at twice: once for the gold and once for the stones. If a ring is in good condition, it may be cleaned up and worn again by someone new.

Selling Gold Chains
Chains are bought by weight and purity, so knots, kinks and missing clasps don’t matter. Look for a small stamp on the clasp or near it: 375 means 9ct and 750 means 18ct.
Some chains are hollow inside, so they weigh less than they look. The scale tells the truth. Selling a heavy chain? Read the guide to selling a men’s gold chain.

Selling Pendants, Lockets and Charms
You can sell a pendant with its chain, or on its own. Lockets, crosses, medallions and charm bracelets are all welcome.
If a pendant holds a Diamond or gemstone, you choose: sell the stone with it, or keep the stone and sell only the gold.

What About the Diamonds and Gemstones?
Many gold buyers pay for the gold and ignore the stones. At Vivid Jewels, every Diamond and gemstone is checked by a gemstone expert. If a stone is worth extra, you’re paid for it.
If you’d rather keep a stone, you’re welcome to, and it can sometimes be removed on the spot. Not sure what you’ve got? Read is your Diamond or gemstone worth anything?

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I sell a single gold earring?
Yes. A single earring is still gold. It’s tested, weighed and priced on the day’s gold price, the same as a pair.
Do you buy gold earrings without backs?
Yes. Missing backs, broken hooks and odd earrings are all welcome.
Where can I sell gold earrings in Canberra?
At Vivid Jewels, by appointment in Canberra. The quote is free and private, and if you like the price, you’re paid on the spot. See how it works on the sell gold in Canberra page.
Do you buy knotted or broken chains?
Yes. Chains are bought for their gold, so knots, kinks and broken clasps don’t matter. There’s no need to untangle them first.
Can I sell a ring with stones in it?
Yes. The gold and the stones are looked at separately. You can sell the stones with the ring, or keep them, and they can sometimes be removed on the spot.
How much will I get for my gold ring?
It depends on the weight, the karat and the day’s gold price. Every piece is tested and weighed in front of you, and you’ll see the numbers in a spreadsheet you can take home.
Do you buy wedding and engagement rings?
Yes. If a ring is in good condition, it may be cleaned up and sold again to someone who’ll love it.
Is the quote free?
Yes. It’s a free quote with no obligation. Sit down, take your time, and if you like the price, you’re paid on the spot. If not, you’re free to walk away. We love jewellery and we’re always happy to help.
Do I have to sell on the day?
No. Take your spreadsheet home and think it over. Come back when you’re ready.
If I don’t sell now, do I get the same price when I come back?
The price is set by the gold price on the day you sell. When you come back, we just change the day’s gold price and the whole list updates.
Can I sell gold-plated earrings?
Plated pieces hold very little gold, so they’re usually worth little as gold. Stamps like GP, GF or HGE mean plated or filled. If you’re not sure, bring them in and they’ll be tested in front of you.
