Sell Gold and Silver Coins in Canberra

Sell Gold and Silver Coins in Canberra

Maybe it’s a tin of old coins from your grandad. A few gold coins you bought years ago and forgot about. Or a jar of pre-decimal silver that’s been sitting in the cupboard since 1966.

You want to know two things. What are they actually worth? And who’ll give you a fair price without the runaround?

That’s where I come in. I’m Josh, and I buy gold and silver coins privately in Yarralumla, by appointment. I’ll go through every coin with you, tell you what it is, and show you exactly how I arrive at each offer.

What Coins Can You Sell?

Bring whatever you’ve got. One coin or a whole collection.

Gold Coins

Australian and British gold sovereigns and half sovereigns. Perth Mint bullion coins like the Kangaroo (once called the Nugget). Krugerrands, Maple Leafs and other bullion coins. Proof and commemorative gold coins, in their cases or loose.

Silver Coins

Old Australian silver is worth more than most people think. Florins, shillings, sixpences and threepences made up to 1945 are 92.5% silver. The ones made from 1946 until decimal currency arrived are 50% silver. And the round 1966 50 cent coin is 80% silver, so it’s worth a lot more than 50 cents.

Silver bullion coins and silver jewellery are welcome too.

How I Work Out What Your Coins Are Worth

Most coins are worth their gold or silver content. I test each one, weigh it, and price it on the gold or silver price on the day. You see the numbers for every coin, so you know exactly where your offer comes from.

Some coins are worth more than their metal. A rare date, a proof set in its original case, a coin in beautiful condition. If I think a coin could be worth more to a collector, I’ll tell you, so you don’t sell it for its metal.

What Happens When You Come in

  1. Call or send a few photos. Tell me what you’ve got. I can often give you a rough idea before you come in.
  2. Sit down with me in Yarralumla. We go through every coin together, and I write down what each one is and what I can offer for it.
  3. You decide. Sell one coin, sell the lot, or take everything home and think it over. If you sell, you’re paid the same day.

Please Don’t Clean Your Coins

It’s tempting to give them a polish first. Don’t. Cleaning can scratch a coin and wipe out its collector value. Bring them in exactly as they are, even if they look dull or grubby.

What is my 1966 50 cent coin worth?
